BEST WISHES to the Class of 2024!
Dupré Kelly is an accomplished platinum-selling recording artist and an award-winning community
activist and advocate. He serves on the Board of Trustees for the United Way of Greater Newark, the Advisory Board of Newark Museum, the local board of After School Allstars, and the Board of Trustees for Newark Arts. He understands the differences that are present in all areas of the West Ward because he has addressed them by showing up. He also understands that the residents need someone they can trust and will be there when things get difficult.
Dupré is an indigenous West Warder, who plans to help revitalize the five neighborhoods in the West Ward -- not just the brick and mortar but also the mindset of the people by creating programs that encourage residents to be actively involved in shaping the policies and programs that affect their neighborhoods. As a graduate of Newark Teach (formerly Essex County Vocational & Technical School), he is well aware of how having a trade can enhance earning power.
Dupré believes a sustainable quality of life is a must. "We need to expand our young people's employment opportunities through education and youth initiatives that are of interest to them. We need to reimagine senior recreation and entertainment. We also need to reevaluate legislation that's already in place or propose new legislation that will hold small businesses and storefronts accountable for how our corridors look and are maintained." He is addressing blight and uncleanliness by partnering with Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity Incorporated and the Department of Sanitation to offer the Sidewalk Soldiers program.
With Covid-19 changing the landscape, Dupré is partnering with the Newark health department and local hospitals in innovative ways to raise health awareness. The Doc on The Block program provides West Ward residents with direct access to medical professionals.
Dupré has received numerous awards and acknowledgments from: cities including East Orange, Irvington, Paterson and Newark; the New Jersey State Senate & United States Congress; the Newark Public Schools, and various community organizations.
